Hey, I’m Kay
Just a midwestern girl with crazy hair and even crazier dreams.
For the first 18 years of my life, I was one of the 166 residents of a tiny village in the middle of rural Missouri. I woke up with cows voicing their grievances to the world and went to bed with the choirs of grasshoppers and cicadas singing to the night sky. My days were filled with climbing tall oak trees, basking in the warm sunlight, and running through fields nearby with the neighborhood dogs.
My parents made sure that I was exposed to as many different places and things as we could afford when I was growing up, so I’ve always loved traveling. We went to the sleepy beaches of Sanibel Island, saw the blindingly bright city of Toronto, and rode the angry waves from Nova Scotia to Prince Edward Island. But these tastes of the great big world were not enough to keep me satisfied. Even now, I still long to see more.
With college, there is little time to explore. But where there’s a will, there’s a way. I am currently in my second year towards earning my Bachelors in English. With this, I hope to be one step closer to not only living but teaching abroad. I currently work with WeTalk – China to teach English to kids in Beijing on the weekends. I get to see their faces light up with joy when they know the words and understand the language. I get to see myself living a life I am happy in.
And so I keep moving forward.
